A Street Cat's Journey in Camrose, Alberta

Trap, Neuter, Release/Rehab Program

Since opening in 2020, CAARS has collaborated with Camrose residents to map and manage the local feral cat colonies. Our Trap, Neuter, Release/Rehab program is dedicated to controlling the feral cat population humanely and effectively. Initially, we focused on securing funds for various territories, but we've since partnered closely with caretakers, especially in the North Side Trailer Park colony.

We assist with sick, pregnant, and nursing cats, ensuring they receive the veterinary care they need. Whenever possible, we rehabilitate these cats into house pets. If adoption isn't an option, we rehome them as barn cats or return them to their colonies, providing ongoing support to caretakers with food and medical care. This approach reduces the population over time by preventing reproduction, leading to fewer diseases and a healthier cat community.

In October 2022, we discovered another significant colony near Sparling School in Camrose. Due to space and funding constraints, we have only managed to trap and vet nine cats and kittens from this location. Despite these challenges, we are committed to continuing our efforts to care for these cats.

Although our application for the Community Project Grant with the City of Camrose was denied in November 2022, we remain determined. The lives of these cats matter, and we will keep striving for support.

How can you help? You can write a letter of support to the City of Camrose, become a foster home, or contribute financially through our crowdfunding campaign with the Government of Alberta. Every bit of help makes a difference in the lives of these cats.
